Music and Memory Program

“Miss Mary was added to our program in March to help with her cognition and quality of life here. Being predominately bed-bound puts her at risk for isolation, but not with her music! The music definitely cheers her up and provides her with some in-room entertainment.

One day, she was very upset and trying to get out of bed by herself. With music, she was calm and singing loudly. Her music not only boosted her mood in this scenario but potentially kept her safe considering she no longer tried to get out her bed.

Overall, Miss Mary’s cognition has improved. Even though she still has confusion that sometimes leads to agitation, the music helps to calm her down quickly. Her quality of life has improved with the music keeping her calm and happy. Seeing her singing and smiling with the music on really puts a smile on our faces as well!”
